STEELDRUM OR STEELPAN OR PAN :
Musical instrument invented in the Trinidad and Tobago islands in 1950. Made out of oil drums, it allows all orchestra registers from low to high pitches. Steelbands make acoustic music that needs very little or no amplification on stage or on the ground in the middle of the audience.
CALYPSUD :
Is an association based in the south of France (Hérault - 34). Since 1998, it presents steelband shows and makes records, takes part in national and international meetings and also manages pedagogic actions. Lead by a pursuit of quality , these thirty musicians renew their repertoire each year - an original mix made of caribbean and european culture. Under the incentive of a professional hard core, they are united around the same artistic idea.

THE STEELBAND DE MONTAGNAC :
Front rank group, this conventional steelband gathers all Calypsud members. Like Trinidad orchestras, the association takes care of all members in a pedagogic and artistic way and places instruments at their disposal. In return, musiciens commit themselves to do serious personal work and to be present during weelky rehearsals. Season after season, the group has thus learned to communicate festive musical joy on stage.
Conventional steelbands use complete instruments, entirely chromatic. They are quite rare in Europe contrary to round the neck groups which have simplified bass tone drums that can be carried.
PROPAN :
Wandering group with round the neck instruments, PROPAN offers to audiences a strong festive repertory. With its dynamics and surprises, this group will naturally lead spectators in its steps.
THE QUARTET CALYPSUD :
This high(highly) qualifed conventional unit can play in all circumstances with very few technical conditions. It asserts itself by sheer hard work, through its fine interpretations as well as its caribbean rhythmical energy.
ARTICLE MUSIC FOR THE EYES' DELIGHT :
<< For the last seasonal concert in the Front dArmand quarries, more than 600 people came at the Culture Council Committees invitation. Some hit bamboos, they hit the drum. We're talking about the Steelband de Montagnac which came on stage with its thousands of litres of drums. The thirty musicians of this group brilliantly perform various repertoires. We were able to hear traditional melodies from Trinidad or other Caribbean islands, French variety (La Vie en Rose, LHymne à lAmour, ...), Bob Marley or classical music ... the whole played by all aged passionate musicians who not only let us hear music but also let us see it. A real pleasure for the ears, eyes and heart. An apotheosis finale where more than 100 persons came on stage to share happiness, dansing and singing. This 10th of August, the rain of stars was not only in the sky >>
